Position Description

Environmental Science Educator wanted at “e” inc. for late June start.

“e” inc.- the environmental learning and action center is currently seeking a science teacher interested in working in urban settings within Boston. The job is 18 hours/week and will last through August 14th with the possibility of extension into the following school year.

“e” inc. is a nonprofit whose mission is to educate and support children and adults to be environmental citizens for life. We accomplish this by teaching the deep science that comprises natural resource systems and by helping individuals, groups, and classes create and support actions that foster sustainability locally and/or globally. Our outcome? Educated kids who care!

Applicants need to be comfortable with a wide range of teaching techniques from inquiry-based challenges and experiments to creatively involving children or teens in data collection. Applicants also need to be conversant with creating and doing hands-on projects including gardening and visual arts to help students enjoy, model, and understand how their earth works.

This position is 18 hours/week (anticipated as 12 teaching hours, 4 planning hours, 1 supervision hour, and 1 meeting hour). All supervision, meetings and planning hours take place at the e-inc. office located downtown. The 12 teaching hours will be split between two different sites (one located in Mattapan and the other in Allston). The summer season runs from July 7th-August 14th. There will be a paid training session at the end of June. Rates are based upon education and experience.

Additional Qualifications:

1) BA/S or MA in environmental science, biology, ecology or related field.

2) Experience working with students in an urban setting.

3) Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
