Position Description

We are currently recruiting for the position of Asst. Aquatics Director to work at Camp Harbor View located on Long Island, MA. Long Island is situated in Quincy Bay, in the middle of Boston Harbor. The island forms part of the City of Boston, and of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. The day camp will serve campers aged 11 – 14 years. The facility includes an outdoor pool and a beach front area for swimming.


Responsibilities:

•Assist Aquatics Director in assessing camper’s and relevant staff’s swimming abilities.
•Assist in planning and supervising water activities for campers and staff which include swimming in both a pool and on the waterfront and water safety.
•Assist in providing and overseeing swimming instruction for the campers
•Supervise up to 10 lifeguards
•Check the water quality of the ocean and chemical levels in the pool, maintain appropriate levels
•Supervise all waterfront and pool activities, and staff
•Maintain pool and waterfront equipment
•Supervision and discipline of members participating in aquatic activities as well as throughout the camp, as deemed appropriate.
•When off campus swimming activities occur, supervise those events, such as field trips, etc.
•When some campers attend Waterfront activities, supervises and maintain the safety of that area
•Attend daily and weekly meetings, as requested by Aquatics Director or Camp Director.
•Other related duties as specified by the Aquatics Director or Camp Director.


Qualifications:

•Supervisory experience in a camp setting preferred.
•Interest, knowledge, and skills related to camp waterfront and pool activities.
•Three seasons of previous life guard experience.
•Ability to supervise and teach youth aged 11-14.
•Ability to set up, adjust and monitor physical equipment in specialty area.
•BA/BS in related field preferred, equivalent experience considered
•Direct experience developing and delivering aquatics programs for youth.
•Knowledge of trends in swimming techniques and lifeguard training.
•Current WSI, lifeguard, first aid, and CPR certifications required
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
•Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
•Ability to work on Long Island, MA and flexibility to work extended hours required.
•Valid drivers’ license required.


Additional Qualifications:

This is a temporary (seasonal) full-time position, June - August.
