Position Description

We are currently recruiting for the position of Associate Camp Director to work at Camp Harbor View located on Long Island, MA. Long Island is situated in Quincy Bay, in the middle of Boston Harbor. The island forms part of the City of Boston, and of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. The camp serves campers aged 11-14 years.

The role of the Associate Camp Director is to aid the director in the day to day operations of the camp. The Associate Director is often the liaison between the director and the rest of the staff.


Responsibilities:

•Responsible for assisting with the management of camp staff under the direction of the Camp Director.
•Assist with the orientation, training and supervision of camp counselors and volunteers as deemed appropriate.
•Assist in the supervision and discipline of campers participating in programs and services of the camp.
•Under the guidance and direction of Camp Director, oversee the planning, coordination and implementation of a wide variety of developmentally appropriate programs and activities on a day-to-day basis. Coordinate off-site trips as appropriate.
•Assist with fundraising and donor events as requested by Camp Director.
•Maintain camp safety standards and adhere to other city/state regulations.
•Other related duties as specified by the Camp Director and/or EVP, Operations.


Qualifications:

•BA/BS degree in camp administration, recreation/education or related degree.
•Direct experience working with children/youth, providing a wide range of developmentally appropriate programs and activities; experience in program/activity development and implementation required.
•Previous administrative experience preferred.
•Previous experience working within a camp setting required.
•Ability to supervise staff and campers
•Knowledge of youth development principles
•Current CPR and First Aid certification required
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
•Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Valid drivers license required


Additional Qualifications:

This is a temporary (seasonal) full-time position, June - August, located in Quincy, MA.
