Position Description

We are currently recruiting for the position of Counselor-In-Trainig Director to work at Camp Harbor View located on Long Island, MA. Long Island is situated in Quincy Bay, in the middle of Boston Harbor. The island forms part of the City of Boston, and of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. The day camp will serve campers aged 11-14 years. The CIT program serves former campers ages 15 and 16.

Purpose:

Major responsibility is to oversee the planning, implementation and ongoing evaluation of quality and developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, and special events in the counselor in training program. Additional responsibilities include the oversight of program staff and department budget.

Responsibilities:

•In conjunction with department staff, provide a variety of programming options reflective of the Camp Harbor View Counselor In Training Program, ensuring that teens have the opportunity to participate in activities representative of all CHV core program areas: arts, knowledge is power, leadership development, aquatics and sports and fitness. The program should build a culture of college prep, vocational ed, and expanding opportunities. The Director will also run individual programs, activities, trips, etc.
•Supervise and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the camp as deemed appropriate.
•Coordinate program partners, particularly UMass Boston and other partners specific to the CIT program and daily activities for the Counselors in training.
•Work with each CIT on an individual basis to set goals and monitor progress toward achieving those goals. Participate in individual and group supervision sessions.
•Assist Camp Director in orienting, training and supervising camp staff. Assist in establishing expectations for the CITs and assist in training the staff in working with the CITs. Provide annual performance evaluations for applicable staff in a timely manner.
•Secure, maintain and monitor budget, materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s). Maintain cleanliness of program area(s).
•Other related duties as specified by the Camp Director

Qualifications:

•BA/BS, equivalent experience considered
•Direct experience developing and delivering a wide variety of programming and support services for teens
•Knowledge of trends in recreation activities, community service and leadership activities for teens
•Minimum one year supervisory experience
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
•MS Office and web competency preferred
•Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Valid driver’s license required
Additional Qualifications:
This is a temporary (seasonal) full-time position, June-August, and is located in Quincy, MA.
