Position Description

We are currently recruiting for the position of Lifeguard to work at Camp Harbor View located on Long Island, MA. Long Island is situated in Quincy Bay, in the middle of Boston Harbor. The island forms part of the City of Boston, and of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. The day camp serves campers aged 11 – 14 years.


Responsibilities:

•Along with Aquatics Director/Asst. Aquatics Dir., assist in maintaining a safe environment, in accordance with all safety standards. Enforce all pool and waterfront rules and be familiar with all emergency procedures.
•Assist in implementing developmentally appropriate activities, including assistance with swimming lessons for various swimming levels.
•Assist in developing and overseeing activities on the waterfront area including but not limited to kayaking, swimming, fishing, and tide pooling.
•Assist in the supervision and discipline of campers participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the camp as deemed appropriate including but not limited to sailing area.
•Secure and maintain materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s). Maintain cleanliness of program area(s).
•Travel between areas and to activities as needed
•Other related duties as specified by the Aquatics Director or Asst. Aquatics Director.


Qualifications:

•18+ years of age
•Current American Red Cross Advanced Lifesaving certification
•Current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification
•Certification in Water Safety Instruction preferred.
•Experience as a lifeguard preferred; at minimum, experience working with children/youth
•Knowledge of youth development principles
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
•Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team


Additional Qualifications:

This is a temporary (seasonal), full-time position, June - August.
