- Position Description
We are currently recruiting for the position of Team Leader to work at Camp Harbor View located on Long Island, MA. Long Island is situated in Quincy Bay, in the middle of Boston Harbor. The island forms part of the City of Boston, and of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. The day camp serves campers aged 11 – 14 years.
Our Team Leaders play a critical role in supporting and supervising camp counselors in addition to providing leadership over a variety of activity areas.
Responsibilities:
•Oversee the day to day activities of a team of 6 counselors and up to 65 campers
•Assist with the orientation, training and supervision of camp counselors and volunteers as deemed appropriate.
•Assist in the supervision and discipline of campers participating in programs and services of the camp.
•Provide support, resources, and direction to the camp counselors on your team.
•Complete staff evaluations both midsummer and at the end of the summer for staff on your team.
•Assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of a wide variety of developmentally appropriate programs and activities on a day-to-day basis.
•Maintain camp safety standards and adhere to other city/state regulations.
•Attend regular meetings and maintain strong communication with other Team Leaders.
•Other related duties as specified by the Associate Camp Directors, Director of Operations, Camp Director and/or EVP, Operations.
•Be a positive role model, demonstrating effective leadership skills
Qualifications:•BA/BS degree in youth development, camp administration, recreation/education or related degree preferred
•Direct experience working with children/youth, providing a wide range of developmentally appropriate programs and activities; experience in program/activity development and implementation required
•Previous experience working within a camp setting required
•Ability to supervise counseling staff and campers
•Knowledge of youth development principles
•Current CPR and First Aid certification required
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
•Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Valid drivers license required
Additional Qualifications:This is a temporary (seasonal), full-time position, June - August.
