Position Description

Friends of the Children-Boston (Friends-Boston) is a revolutionary mentoring organization committed to supporting, developing, and fostering high academic achievement and strong character development of children from at-risk and underserved communities to avoid cycles of poverty, abuse or violence and become successful members of society.

Friends-Boston pairs children who are facing and reacting to risk conditions (Achievers) with a professional, part-time mentors every year for twelve years beginning in first grade and continuing through high school graduation. Each mentor provides at least four hours of social-emotional, behavioral, and academic support each week during in-school and out-of-school time. Achievers are selected from Boston Public Schools and neighborhoods that have high rates of crime, violence, and poverty, as well as low academic achievement (Dorchester, Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Mattapan, Hyde Park, and South Boston).

The Social Work Student Internship Supervisor will provide supervision and support for a team of social work students at the Masters and Bachelors levels who are completing their field placement by serving as mentors with Friends-Boston. All mentors will be trained in “Collaborative Problem Solving”, a skill-building treatment model for children with social, emotional and behavioral challenges. It will be the responsibility of the Social Work Internship Supervisor to provide one-on-one supervision to each mentor each week around clinical case management services provided to Achievers. The Social Work Internship Supervisor will also provide occasional support at schools and at activity sites to enhance support to mentors. This is a full-time position.


Responsibilities

•Provide weekly supervision to a team of mentors (up to 20)
•Provide ongoing training and professional development to mentors
•Review client documentation such as assessments, treatment plans, and other supervisory documents
•Provide social work consultation as member of “Achiever Support Team” along with other staff
•Provide immediate consultation and support to mentors around client and case crises
•Work in partnership with the Program Director and management team to ensure the alignment of staff management and effective service delivery
•Attend and actively participate in team meetings and staff functions
•Serve as primary contact for field placement communication with social work schools

Education and Experience Requirements

•MSW and LICSW required
•Minimum of 2 years post-MSW supervisory experience
•Prior experience supervising MSW-level student interns and/ or completion of a New England Consortium (NECON) of Field Education Directors- approved “Seminar in Field Instruction”
•Previous experience working in children and family services and in schools
•Spanish and Creole language skills a plus
