Mission
Teen Voices is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and educate teen girls to create change through media.
General Description
The energetic and committed Development Director’s primary responsibility is to oversee grantwriting, event planning, and major donor work. S/he reports to the Executive Director and strategically plans for the growth and development of Teen Voices through leadership on the Management Team and implementation of the organization’s mission. The Development Director supervises the Development Associate and the Development Coordinator and develops and implements a development plan for the organization.
The Development Director is responsible for:
GRANTS PRORGAM:
• Oversee cultivation of and relationships with about 35 – 40 foundations/corporations/government entities by developing and overseeing the grant-writing process, including supervising the annual grants budget and calendar, editing grant proposals and reports, ensuring timely and high-quality submissions, and identifying and cultivating prospective foundations.
• Work with other staff to produce needed information and materials for grants.
• Analyze program evaluation data, particularly for foundation reports.
• Identify funding opportunities and new program areas to match institutional priorities, using research tools.EVENTS
• Coordinate 3 – 5 small events for high donors with 20 – 100 people attending.
• Engage key foundation program officers and major donors with program events.
• Coordinate follow-up from events to further engage foundation staff, donors, and prospects.MEMBERHSIPS/INDIVIDUAL DONORS
• Produce annual appeal schedule and targeted letters.
• Provide information for the fiscal year development plan for major donor work (e.g. members giving $100+) and foundations in consultation with Executive Director and Development Consultant.
• Provide research and reports on high donors, prospects, and Board for ED. Set up meetings for Executive Director and Board Members.
• Supervise the Development Associate with individual memberships (under $100) and Institutions including solicitations and renewals.
• Oversee the creation of donor materials.
• Ensure that all gifts and pledges received are recorded, reminded, and acknowledged in a timely manner.
• Coordinate with finance team to ensure that pledges, gifts, grants, and other revenues are properly recorded in the organization’s financial records, forecasts, and budgets, and that grant budgets and grant reports align properly.MANAGEMENT
• Contribute to organizational development within Teen Voices, seeking ways to continually boost effectiveness and impact.
• Represent the organization publicly in person as needed.
• Guide and involve development staff and volunteers in development planning, donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
• Recruit, train, and coach development volunteers.
• Staff Development/Event Committee meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
Additional Qualifications:Ability to write compelling grants, appeals, program descriptions and other materials that effectively communicate Teen Voices’ mission, programs and activities. Experience writing grants; excellent administrative, organizational skills, event organizing, and interpersonal skills preferred. Commitment to social and economic justice essential. Bachelor’s degree required. 3-5+ years of experience preferred. Must relate well to culturally and economically diverse community. Women of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
